What is Robotic Process Automation (RPA)?
RPA is the application of a new technology allowing organisations to automate low level and repetitive tasks. Typically it is the configuration of computer software or the “robot” to capture and interpret existing applications, rather than software coding.
Why should the CxO be interested in Automation?
Robotic Process Automation is a software technology allowing businesses to automate low-level tasks now and will assist humans with higher-level tasks in the future, as the technology improves.
The primary focus of automation is to have software bots complete routine, monotonous jobs, for processing transactions, manipulating data, triggering responses and communicating with other digital systems. This allows the human employees to complete tasks that require feelings, emotional intelligence, reasoning, judgement, and a higher level of care and interaction with the organisations other customers or employees.

How Does RPA Work?
Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is basically a 24*7 virtual employee trained to perform repetitive tasks again and again without making mistakes, becoming bored or getting tired. RPA is an overlay technology that works within an organisations existing applications and thus is able to perform tasks and structured processes automatically.
RPA is used to automate a variety of business processes, including purchase order raising, invoice processing, capturing data, report generation and HR function such as employee on-boarding.
What Tools are there?
Robotic process automation can be used in conjunction with artificial intelligence (AI) and for complex tasks can use machine learning capabilities to handle high-volume, repeatable tasks that previously required lots of human effort to perform. These tasks can include queries, moving data, calculations and maintenance of records and transactions.
